"Smart Travel" on the Brink of Phase 3

(A COVID-19 Story – Part 2 of 2)
by Edward R. Pulidindi

A few weeks ago, my wife and I decided that it was time for us to fly again. We flew to Georgia so we could go and visit my sister and brother-in-law for a couple of days. Travelling to Atlanta in COVID-19 was peachy.

Any negative feelings towards airline travel in COVID-19 that I had harbored since January just simply faded away in an instant. Airports are dead right now. If you’re on the fence about flying, this might be the best time for you to book a flight. Here’s how you can travel while still playing it safe this 2020 holiday season

Get tested for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Urgent Care in Burtonsville, MD offers rapid and full COVID-19 tests, and same day results in a quick and easy drive-thru appointment. We received negative test results for both of our tests within 1-day and 1-week. Urgent Care just called our Smart Phones.

Since we tested negative, we figured this as a calculated risk towards our over-all well-being, mental health, and our opportunity to reacclimate with friends and family. While waiting in line at the drive-thru I figured I would Google the symptoms of being in quarantine. Anger, stress, and confusion were some of the main symptoms. Examining the Coronavirus from various angles it is evident the Smart Virus can infect everyone differently.

On the day of our flight we arrived early since we were unsure what to expect. Too early. Give yourself about an hour. TSA Security Checkpoint lines are far less busy these days and we experienced no wait time in both lines at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International and Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Smart Phones and Smart Homes do some cool things that can help reduce anxiety and stress associated with travelling. Things are different when you’re on Wi-Fi. This time, when my wife checked-in to her flight her boarding pass sent directly to her smart phone.

My Smart Home is an app on my Smart Phone, which provides access to my home’s security details, and it makes us feel safe. The cameras we installed increase visibility and provide us the ability to view the security details of our property while we are away, and all in the palm of our hands.

If you are anything like me chances are sometimes you forget to check-in to your flight ahead of time. Great news! No more long lines at the airline check-in booth or counter. Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport has implemented check-in kiosks throughout the main entrance of the airport terminal for your added convenience.

Once you board your flight for departure you will notice an empty seat next to you. These empty seats are not for sale. These seats are kept empty to practice social distancing. You may also notice that some airline companies have removed their entire in-flight food and beverage menus but, “what about my Southwest free drink vouchers?”

The Southwest drink vouchers can no longer be redeemed in exchange for alcoholic beverages. I know because I have tried. But. By eliminating food and beverage services I saved money on my flight. Period. Also, in doing so, we were spared the risk of any unnecessary germs spreading throughout the cabin by flight attendants handing out various packaged items during our flight. Less garbage too. My advice, pack yourself a nice little Smart Meal for your flight.

The flight home from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International to BWI Airport was equally as convenient, and we had such a good time that we extended our stay there. Atlanta International Airport is just as empty as BWI. If you are unsure what to do this holiday season, and a road trip is out of the question. Domestic travel this holiday season is still a great choice to spend with family and friends.
